European Community Trademark is a trademark valid across the European Union as a whole. A Community Trademark confers on its proprietor an exclusive right to use the trademark and prevent other parties to use it without consent or to use a similar trademark for identical/similar goods and/or services as those protected by the European trademark.

The first step to obtain protection for your trademark in every country that is a member of the UE is filing the European Community Trademark application directly with the Office of Harmonization for the Internal Market (OHIM) in Alicante, Spain or via national industrial property offices.
A Community Trademark is valid for 10 years and can be renewed for periods of ten years.
